About Covellite Presents
Covellite Presents is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization stewarding the historic Covellite Theatre, an 1896 Gothic cathedral in uptown Butte that has served as a home for performing arts since the late 1940s. Since restarting operations in September 2023, Covellite Presents has invested $175,000 into building improvements, a new roof, sound and lighting upgrades, and expanded operations. Now formally staffed for the first time, the organization hosts an average of 18 events per month across its two performance spaces, bringing live music, theatre, comedy, film, dance, workshops, fundraisers, classes, and community rentals to the heart of uptown Butte. The Covellite Theatre Stained Glass Restoration Project will preserve and reinstall three original stained glass windows from the 1896 First Presbyterian Church: the east and west rose windows and the large south-facing Gothic arch. Removed in the 1980s and safely stored for more than two decades after partial restoration by Father Dan Hillen, the glass has now been donated back to the theatre. With a $21,000 grant from the Superfund Advisory Trust and Redevelopment Authority, work will begin in June 2026 under Montana Historic Restoration LLC, including the rebuilding of four missing south window panels. Covellite Presents is raising the remaining $74,000 by August 25, 2026, to restore this defining architectural feature and preserve a piece of Butte’s cultural heritage for generations to come.
