About St. Stephen's - Latin Band Concert

St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Hicksville, NY will hold a Latin band concert on the afternoon of July 14, 2019. The concert is being planned as an outreach initiative to get to know our neighbors and for our neighbors to get to know St. Stephen's. There is a large Hispanic population in Hicksville (about 14.5%) and the concert provides the members of St. Stephen's an afternoon of fellowship with our community where we can share the music of the Latin big band era of the 50's and 60's. This year, a local dance studio has agreed to come by and offer a salsa dancing demo. We held a similar event in 2017 and it was truly a community event as our 170 guests filled the chairs on our back lawn and overflowed onto the hill. We will donate any proceeds, after expenses, to Metropolitan NY Synod's new Sanctuary Ministry Fund to help Unaccompanied Migrant Minors. The seed money will help to defray expenses, leaving more money left over to donate. The volunteer team with help to plan the event, promote the event by posting flyers, engage the community by seeking partnerships with local businesses, arrange for the band and the refreshments, sell tickets, set up for the event, and clean up after the event.
