About Lower Dauphin Communities That Care
Join us in financial support of young women and girls in our community as they learn how to relate better with others, be a better friend and receive the tools to overcome relational aggression whether they're the aggressor (bully), the victim (target), or the bystander. Funds raised will support the "Club O" programs. Lower Dauphin Communities That Care is very fortunate to have the Club O program's founder, Dr. Cheryl Dellasega, close by at the Penn State College of Medicine. She's been a tremendous resource for our community. Club Ophelia offers four programs: 1) Club Ophelia, a 10-week after-school program at Lower Dauphin Middle School. Identified girls in 6th grade take part in an arts-based program with trained high school girls serving as role models and mentors. 2) Junior Club Ophelia, a six-week after-school program offered at each of our elementary schools. Identified girls in grades 4-5 take part in an arts-based program with trained high school girls serving as role models and mentors. 3) Miss Ophelia, a four-week program for younger girls in grades 2-3, was introduced in the fall of 2010 and is offered at all elementary schools, including East Hanover and South Hanover Elementary Schools. 4) Camp Ophelia, a four-day camp in June, is hosted for incoming middle school girls. This day-camp provides girls with more opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge to resist relational aggressive behaviors. Since 2005, the Club Ophelia Program serves over 1,450 girls and provides opportunities for 392 high school mentors. Program participants say they understand how to develop healthy relationships and get along better with other girls because of Club Ophelia. For every $2 donated, Thrivent will add an additional $1 during this online campaign up to a maximum of $1,000.
